✔ DO
- Use pallets, 2 x 4's, plywood, or anything that keeps items off the floor.
- Plan how to arrange your unit and leave a center aisle for access.
- Use freestanding shelves to organize items.
- Label boxes on all six sides and keep an inventory list.
- Store frequently used items near the front of the unit.
- Cover items with moving pads, sheets, or blankets.
- Check your unit at least once a month.
- Disassemble furniture like tables and bed frames to save space.
- Use colored stickers when disconnecting electronics so cords reconnect easily.
- Clean and dry appliances before storing and leave them slightly open.
- Store couches on end and stack chairs seat-to-seat.

- Purchase insurance to protect your belongings.
- Use durable containers like Rubbermaid bins for stacking.
- Store valuable items toward the back of the unit.
- Keep seasonal clothes accessible if needed.
- Stay aware of your surroundings and report suspicious activity.

- Do not use plastic to cover belongings because it traps moisture.
- Do not store food items, which may attract pests.
- Do not pack boxes so heavy that they are difficult to carry.
- Do not assume your homeowners or renters insurance covers storage.
- Do not give your password, gate code, or access information to unauthorized people.
- Do not use printed newspaper for wrapping items because ink may transfer.
- Do not forget to clean appliances before storing them.
- Do not store toxins or flammable materials such as paint, oil, or gasoline.
